Maggie Stenson Featured as Guest Speaker at the UTexas Nutrition Meeting

We’re excited to share that Maggie Stenson, MCN, RD, LD, CEDS-C, owner of ATX Nutritional Counseling, was recently invited to speak at the UTexas Nutrition Undergraduate Student Organization’s General Meeting at The University of Texas. Maggie was honored to have the opportunity to connect with nutrition students and share more about her experience working in the field of eating disorder nutrition.

Sharing the Reality of a Career in Eating Disorder Nutrition

For students studying nutrition and considering their future careers, learning what it is actually like to work as a dietitian can be invaluable. Maggie’s career has included experience across multiple levels of eating disorder care, including inpatient, residential, PHP, IOP, and outpatient settings.

During her time with UTexas Nutrition, Maggie shared insight into her professional journey and what ultimately led her to specialize in eating disorders and open her own private practice.

Eating disorder nutrition is a unique area of dietetics that goes far beyond teaching clients about food and nutrition. Dietitians working in this field support individuals as they navigate their relationship with food and body image and work towards recovery. The work often involves collaborating closely with therapists, physicians, psychiatrists, families, and other members of a client's treatment team.

Encouraging the Next Generation of Dietitians

One of the most rewarding parts of working in nutrition is having the opportunity to connect with students who are just beginning to explore the many paths available within the field.

There are countless opportunities for registered dietitians beyond traditional nutrition counseling, and Maggie was grateful to be able to share her own experiences with students who may be considering a career in eating disorder treatment.

Whether students ultimately pursue eating disorder nutrition, clinical dietetics, community nutrition, sports nutrition, private practice, or another specialty, gaining exposure to different areas of the profession can help them better understand where their interests and passions may lead.

Thank You, UTexas Nutrition!

We’re grateful to UTexas Nutrition for inviting Maggie to be a guest speaker at their September general meeting and for giving her the opportunity to connect with students who are beginning their own journeys in nutrition and dietetics.

It is always an honor to share experiences from the field, answer questions, and encourage future dietitians as they explore the many possibilities within the profession.

We’re looking forward to continuing to support nutrition education and the next generation of dietitians!
